Developing the Next Generation of Forward-Thinking Veterinarians

Jailene's Acceptance to Cornell Vet School

For our “Meet Us on Monday” series, we want to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of one of our former interns, Jailene Pimentel. Jailene was a pre-vet student who recently graduated from St. John’s University, and just got accepted to her dream school, the prestigious Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. We know she’s going to achieve amazing things and be the advocate for both the pets and people of the community, which is so desperately needed.

Jailene first learned about Atlanta Rescue Dog Cafe (ARDC) during a virtual presentation to her pre-vet program at St. John’s University in the spring of 2021. She was intrigued by our unique, “front-end” approach to rescue that emphasizes education, community outreach, and prevention. Shortly thereafter, she inquired about internship opportunities with ARDC, and the next thing we knew, she was conducting high-level, original research on disparities in access to veterinary care across various demographics and geographies in the U.S. We couldn’t be more proud of her.

Developing the next generation of kind, caring, and compassionate animal welfare advocates and responsible pet owners is one of our organization’s key goals. However, we also strive to develop the next generation of forward-thinking, critical-minded veterinarians who want to be game changers, and better understand the many issues facing both veterinarians and the people in their respective communities who care about and own pets.
